Stephan Lacant

Lacant, after completing high school, studied Theatre, Film, and Television Sciences in Bochum and Cologne before relocating to the United States. During his several years in New York, he pursued studies in directing at the Stella Adler Acting Conservatory and the Film Academy. In 1996, he wrote and filmed his first screenplay for the short film “Little India” while in New York. Over the following years, he produced several short and documentary films as a writer and director, which were screened at numerous international festivals.
Between 1998 and 2001, he operated the production company FRAMEWORK Films in New York.
In 2013, he made his German-language feature film debut at the Berlinale with “Freier Fall.” The film was showcased at over 100 international film festivals and garnered numerous awards, as did his subsequent feature films. His film “Toter Winkel” was nominated for Best International Feature Film at the Emmy Awards and Banff Rockie Awards, among others.
In addition to his feature films, he has also created his second mini-series titled “Schlafende Hunde” for Netflix, which achieved significant success in the global Netflix rankings. He has been residing in Berlin since 2003.
